Popular with dog walkers - The Vale walk in Hartland takes you alongside the river, you can walk for 20 minutes to 2 hrs along this trail. A 10 minute walk from the B&B.
Beaches in North Devon
Mouth Mill Beach (9 mins North of Hartland) This is nearest beach to our B&B. You can enjoy a beautiful woodland walk down through Brownsham Wood to this rocky beach,featuring the stunning triangular form of Blackchurch rock arch and ruins of a lime kiln.
Westward Ho! (31 mins North of Hartland) Westward Ho! beach is a vast sandy beach backed by a large pebble ridge that spans for 2 miles northward of the village. This beach is popular with surfers and walkers alike. The village itself has plenty of places to eat or grab a coffee. in seasonal months you will also find the famous, local, hockings ice cream van. We highly recommend you try one of these delicious creamy vanilla treats with a dollop of clotted cream and a flake!
Welcome Mouth Beach (29 mins South of Hartland) This is a beautiful, quiet, secluded beach to visit for those that don't mind a bit of a walk, you won't be disappointed. The sand and stone beach is surrounded by cliffs and features a beautiful waterfall and is marked as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Coastal paths also bisect the area for those wishing to stretch their legs and breath in the fresh sea air and take in spectacular views.
Bude Beaches (30 mins South of Hartland) Bude has a bevy of beaches for you to discover. whether you want a more touristy beach like summerleaze in the heart of Bude which features a salt water swimming pool or a more secluded spot like Duckpool beach. Towns & Villages
Hartland - Spend a day in Hartland once called Harton Borough and marked as an area of natural beauty. You can explore the history of the village on the Harton Borough heritage trail or enjoy numerous other walks around the area. Stroll around the village and call in to the local shops including the bakers, pop-in general store, bespoke shops and art galleries. You will also find a selection of eateries where you can enjoy tasty, locally soured, food and drinks.
Clovelly - This picturesque fishing village is Hartland's neighbor and is accessible by road or by foot along the coastal path. Its best known for its steep cobbled path down to the harbour. There is lots to see and do in Clovelly visit their website for information.
Bideford - The market town of Bideford is just 20 mins North from our B&B and there you will find lots of shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants to enjoy. You can also visit the popular pannier market where you will find lots of locally crafted and produced items on sale.
Bude - The town of Bude is just 30mins South of our B&B not only does it have a variety of beaches as we mentioned above but the town itself has plenty of shop and eateries to explore.
Fly Fishing Tuition- For our guest that would like to try their hand at fly fishing, John offers tuition sessions at a local trout lake. This activity does incur an additional charge, please let us know your interest at time of booking so that we can discuss costs and availability.
Surfing - There are a host of surfing opportunities in the local area of North Devon. With the many beaches there are also a lot of surfing instructors who work with beginners to the advanced.
Golf - For those of you who enjoy a round of golf or perhaps would like to try for the first time there are many golf courses in the local area for you to enjoy. A couple of good choices in North Devon are the Ivy Leaf Golf Course and the Royal North Devon Golf Club which is the oldest golf club in England.
From Hartland - There are plenty of cycling routes around the Hartland area and for your convenience we can arrange cycle hire for you and have bikes delivered to the property.
The Tarka Trail - North Devon is extremely cycle friendly with the Tarka Trail a particular highlight. Being where the old railway used to be means the Tarka Trail is mostly flat and runs from Braunton through Barnstaple to Bideford and beyond. This provides you with a fantastic opportunity to enjoy the North Devon countryside while cycling, there are many places to hire bikes along the Tarka Trail including at Fremington Quay, Barnstaple Railway Station & Bideford.

"Always a bit unsure about "Home from Home " but this was the real deal, felt at home from the first "Hello." Feeling a bit travel weary was shown to a really cosy bedroom,
Heaven!!, Thinking of where to eat later went down and spoke to Val and John, not only recommended a great place to eat ,but gave us some great info for planning our next days tour of the area, They have obviously researched the area well, giving us a recommended days sight seeing.Great! Nothing too much trouble , Great breakfast, wonderful selection of choices,.. If you like friendly , this is the place to stay. Thanks to you both. will see you again."
